The stone calendar is located in the Yamg village of about 500-600 meter off the main road of Khorog – Langar at the elevation of 2805 meter above the sea level. It has the following coordinates: (lat: 36.585783 N long: 72.185740 E). The village of Yamg is located Location: 180 km to south-west off Khorog and 71 km from the centre of the Ishkashim district. This stone was laid by the famous Badakhshan scientist Muborak Vakhoni (1833-1903) to measure the arrival of Navruz (new day). A genius like Mubarak Vakhoni spent his entire life from in his native village of Yamg to study and invent. The works of this poet and scientists represent the tradition of learning, development of skills, and invention among the people of Badakhshan. Mubarakqadam is compared to Leonardo da Vinci for his ingenuity and creativity.
Travelling to the Site
The village of Yamg is located on the main road connecting the center of GBAO (Khorog) with the center of Ishkashim district. The road is badly damaged, but is very popular among the tourist's driving jeep, and bicycle to reach to the Wakhan valley. The road connects Khorog to the town of Ishkashim. From there it goes to Murgab passing through Kharghushi junction. Visitors travelling to Afghanistan can cross the bridge in the town of Ishkashim to cross to Sultoni Ishkashim village.
The village of Yam can be reached by shared taxi, jeep, from Khorog or Ishkashim.
Tourist visiting the the calendar stone, can also visithe House-Museum of Muborakqadam Wakhoni, hiking and watching the picturesque view of Yamg village on the banks of the Pyanj River. While hiking and climbing to the mountains surrounding the village or walking on the shores of Panj River visitors can admire the scenery view of Wakhan valley across the borders of Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
